Vintage Hen on Nest, Salt Well
Very nice piece and very collectible. This was made in its miniature size to be a salt well. Hen on nest dishes were first popularized in the late 19th century and have been produced in various sizes, colors, and materials, including glass, ceramic, and metal. These dishes were particularly popular during the Victorian era and the Depression era, serving both functional and decorative purposes. They were commonly used to hold candy, butter, or small trinkets. Clear glass versions, like the one in the image, were often made during the Depression era as affordable and attractive household items. The red painted comb is a detail that can add a bit of charm and character to the piece.
