More information about 1911 Buffalo Blue Willow Semi Vitreous China 6 1/4” Set of Two
Two plates, old, early ,well marked, a few flea bites, glazed no cracks or bad chips.
To be a true-Blue Willow (Pink Willow or Red Willow or Rosa Willow) pattern it must include: willow trees, Chinese pine trees (commonly confused as apple or orange trees), a bridge with three men on it, a fence, a boat, a teahouse (or pagoda) and, two birds in flight.
To compete with the popularity of English art pottery, Buffalo Pottery created its underglaze Blue Willow pattern in 1905. It was the first to produce this blue-printed china design in America. Made in fresh York.
The Legend of the Blue Willow depicts the famous Chinese legend of a wealthy man whose daughter falls in treasure with his clerk. The young couple elopes, and the father pursues them through his garden and onto the bridge where they transform into lovebirds and fly off beyond his reach.
