Caopuzhong, also known as “Jiezhong,” is a variety of longan originally from Chaozhou, Guangdong, specifically from Chao’an. It was selected and cultivated by local farmers from seedling trees and has become a primary and superior variety in the region, especially in eastern Guangdong. This variety is known for its adaptability, high yield, and resistance to fruit cracking. It has a long harvest period, and the fruits can remain on the tree until just before the Mid-Autumn Festival without compromising their quality, making it suitable as a late-ripening fresh fruit variety.
The fruit clusters are medium-sized with tightly packed, uniform fruits, each weighing about 9.5 grams. The seed is relatively large, dark brown, and nearly round. The fruit matures from late August to late September, making it a mid-to-late-ripening variety.
